Michigan Unemployment

Michigan Unemployment: You have to think that John Engler would have been savaged by the media if unemployment under his leadership rose to 15.3%, is now the highest in the nation for 41 straight months, and jobs losses were set to top 1,000,000 by the end of his last term. None of that happened under Engler of course, michigan unemployment 300x280 Michigan Unemploymentexcept that the media still savaged him. But now Granholm is at the helm, has lost jobs every single year since she was first inaugurated in 2003, will lose more than a million jobs in a state with 10 million total residents, with no end in sight for job losses. What’s the liberal Detroit Free Press to do? Check out this headline: Michigan 15.3% jobless rate has silver lining. Now you may be thinking like I was “what silver lining?” Well, under Engler, unemployment was around 4% which is good, then went downhill since Granholm. Good went to bad. Bad went to horrible. Then horrible went to rancid manure. So that silver lining? We’re hovering at rancid manure, and not devolving into skunk diarrhea. So be happy with the manure.

Michigan’s unemployment rate inched slightly higher during September, rising one-tenth of a percentage point to 15.3%.

Data released today by the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth showed that the small increase might actually signal some good news, since the state’s jobless rate has remained fairly steady since June, when it rose to 15.2%.

See - no matter how bad things are, at least it’s hovering around that bad. So be happy or something. Silver linings sure aren’t what they used to be. More detailed unemployment information is found at Michigan.gov (HT: Kathy Hoekstra):

Michigan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in September edged upward by one-tenth of a percentage point to 15.3 percent, according to data released today by the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth (DELEG). Total employment decreased by 14,000 and unemployment increased slightly by 4,000, as the state’s labor force recorded a 10,000 reduction over the month.

Michigan’s September 2009 jobless rate was six and four-tenths percentage points above the state’s September 2008 rate of 8.9 percent. In the same period, the national jobless rate increased by three and six-tenths percentage points.

Particularly hard-hit has been the metro-Detroit area, with a regional unemployment rate of 17.8%. Just remember, it’s all good news. The state is stuck on stupid.
