New Delhi: National carrier Air India on Tuesday suspended a pilot and flight purser who were involved in a fight in flight Saturday aboard an international flight from Sharjah to Delhi, and taking out of the copilot and stewardess question.
“Yes, we have suspended the pilot and flight purser and derostered the copilot and stewardess in question,” said an airline spokesman told a news agency on Tuesday, adding an internal investigation into the incident was still standing.
The incident allegedly took place aboard flight CI-884 would also have left unmanned during the melee that erupted in mid-flight between the pilots and cabin crew on Saturday. However, Air India today denied the unmanned flight remained in the fray.
The four were identified as Ranbir Antonio, commander, Aditya Chopra, the co-pilot, Amit Khanna, flight purser and stewardess Komal Singh.
The ground state airline pilots and cabin crew, who were involved in the incident, after the Delhi police registered a case of sexual abuse against the pilots of a complaint lodged by the stewardess.
The president of the commercial pilot in India (ICPA) Shailendra Singh spoke in favor of the pilots and said they had no fault, and nobody can break into the cockpit and take a fight with the drivers.
“I spoke with the pilot and copilot. He had remained there well. There is a certain hierarchy in the cabinet must go,” Singh told reporters here shortly after the airline announced its action against members of the crew .
The National Women’s Commission has also formed a panel to investigate allegations of assault made by the air hostess of Air India against the two pilots after filing a formal complaint Monday.
“She came here and sat with me for six hours. We have presented a complaint to me. We have written to Air India to investigate the matter and informed them about the Supreme Court guidelines on sexual harassment at work”, President of the Girija Vyas Committee, told a news agency.
The incident is understood to have originated in some verbal exchanges between the two parties during the pre-flight briefing before take off from Sharjah, police said.
The Airbus A-320, Sharjah was carrying 106 passengers and seven crew members had come to Lucknow, when informed of the matter.
The case was registered here in Sections 323 (voluntarily causing harm), 354 (assault or using criminal force against a woman with intent to offend her modesty) and 34 (common intention) of Indian Penal Code.
