MELBOURNE: After a brief lull in attacks on Indians in Australia, a student from the community was attacked with an iron “wood or a baseball
bat “, by two men who left him with 20 stitches in his head.

The 28-year-old student, whose name was not immediately known, was attacked by the men after they got off a bus at the Keilor Plains railway station on Tuesday.

He left with 20 stitches in his head after a “provocation” the attack in Melbourne’s north-west, the newspaper ‘Age’ reported.

“The victim got off a bus at the Keilor Plains railway station at 12:15 a.m. on 29 September and was walking down the street Power when he was approached by two men, police said.

He requested a cigarette and gave him both. When he turned to walk away, the man was beaten in the head at least six times with what he believes was a “wooden board or a baseball bat,” they said.

He was knocked unconscious and criminals took his backpack, police was quoted as saying.

Around 30 Indian students were attacked in several cities from June to August. Last month, three Indians were “brutally beaten” by a group of about 70 youth, while playing here.
